Dear Nonprofit New York members and friends,

I wanted to let you know about some upcoming changes at Nonprofit New York. Sharon Stapel, our President & Executive Director, will be stepping down on January 10, 2020. Melkis Alvarez-Baez, Nonprofit New York’s Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed Acting President & Executive Director.

Chief of Staff & Director of Operations at Girl Be Heard Jen Thatcher shares what’s in store for the organization, and why she and the Girl Be Heard team love how Nonprofit New York helps them meet their mission.

Tell me about the organization and a little bit about what you do.

Have you seen - or maybe even made - that promotional video that shows your nonprofit, its leadership, its staff, and the clients that it serves? Many are incredibly moving, and most show the hard, strong work that nonprofits do.

We are built on four pillars that we believe are crucial to incorporate into our community; we champion the unheard voices within opera, we are a community for New York City artist, we are redefining opera, and we make opera affordable and accessible for everyone.

You may have heard by now some news about a popular online donation platform called NYCharities.org. It appears that the organization lost its charitable status  in August of 2018, and it had taken down its website in late June or July. Our members have reported that they have not been able to get in touch with NYCharities.

Taïna Sanon, Membership Manager at Nonprofit New York met with Joanne Smith, President and Founder of Girls for Gender Equity, a member organization of Nonprofit New York.

Nonprofit New York will continue to highlight the work of our members, like Girls for Gender Equity, because we believe that when your nonprofit is stronger, all of us are stronger.

It’s me again, your Membership Manager at Nonprofit New York (formerly NPCC). Back in April 2019 we sent a message to our members about changes to our D&O insurance offerings. This is to remind you, our members, of a couple things we need you to know and do next:

Your policy with Hiscox will be canceled this year!

Hiscox is no longer renewing the policies they hold for our members. You did nothing wrong! All that means is we are moving your policy from Hiscox to Philadelphia Indemnity Company. Next steps are outlined below.

NPCC is now Nonprofit New York! Our name has changed, but our work to strengthen and unite New York’s nonprofits remains the same.
