New York, NY, October 21, 2019 – Nonprofit New York announced three Finalists for the Overall Management Excellence Prize for its Nonprofit Excellence Awards, Nonprofit New York’s program that uplifts and celebrates nonprofits’ innovative management practices. The Finalists are awarded $10,000 each and a scholarship for leadership programs for nonprofit professionals at the Columbia Business School Executive Education Programs in Social Enterprise.

These three stand-out Finalists are now one step closer to winning the 2019 Nonprofit Excellence Awards, and will go on to compete for the $30,000 prize awarded to the Overall Management Excellence Winner. The Overall Winner, the two other Finalists, and organizations receiving Special Recognition in each Key Area of Nonprofit Excellence, will be recognized at and participate in Nonprofit New York’s sold out Best Nonprofit Conference on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.

The three Overall Management Excellence Finalists are:

Henry Street Settlement (Manhattan) is chosen because of its investment in human resources, and its internal and external communications that are closely tied to its outcomes.

The HOPE Program (Brooklyn) is selected because of its ability to grow while remaining agile and adaptable, in addition to its governance practices with a strategic, long-term vision.

Literacy Inc. (LINC) (Manhattan) is selected because of its strategic use of data to inform and refine management practices, as well as its innovative fundraising practices.

“We congratulate Henry Street Settlement, The Hope Program, and Literacy Inc. for meeting their important missions through excellent management practices,” said Sharon Stapel, Nonprofit New York president and executive director. “The purpose of the Nonprofit Excellence Awards is to share innovative and replicable nonprofit management practices with the entire sector at our Best Nonprofit Conference. These Finalists will contribute enormously to that conversation.”

The Awards, now in its 13th year, is an opportunity to learn Nonprofit New York’s Key Areas of Nonprofit Excellence. The Best Nonprofit Conference gives all nonprofits a way to learn from - and aspire to - the best practices of the Award winner, and other recognized organizations.

“The Clark Foundation is pleased to congratulate the three Finalists,” said Doug Bauer, executive director of The Clark Foundation. “It’s wonderful that the Awards program recognizes these nonprofits which puts nonprofit excellence into practice every day, and gives conference goers the opportunity to learn from them.”

The Finalists were selected by a 38-person expert Selection Committee who not only evaluate applicants, but share tailored feedback and expertise throughout the Awards program. For the first time this year, the Selection Committee assessed organizations on Nonprofit New York’s newest Key Area, Advocacy and Strategic Alliances.

“Columbia Business School Executive Education is thrilled to recognize and support these three organizations through scholarships to our leadership development programs,” said Matt Harty, Head of Programs in Social Enterprise at Columbia Business School Executive Education.
