New York, NY, December 4, 2017 – The Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York (NPCC) held its 11th Annual New York Community Trust Nonprofit Excellence Awards Best Practices Workshop & Awards Presentation on Friday, December 1 to recognize the exceptional management practices of three winning organizations. The Awards program gives applicants the unique opportunity to identify areas for growth and recognize achievement by engaging in a 360 degree review process of their management practices with a 29 member selection committee providing expert feedback. Throughout the nine-month selection process, applicants individually learn replicable and innovative management practices and then share with the entire nonprofit sector.
Brooklyn Community Services empowers at-risk children, youth and families, and adults with mental illness or developmental disabilities to overcome the obstacles they face. Children’s Aid helps children living in poverty succeed and thrive. Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) fights to end the AIDS epidemic and uplift the lives of all affected.
The winners participated in a moderated panel discussion during the Best Practices Workshop which was then followed by the Awards Presentation where they were presented with their award and scholarships to Columbia Business School Executive Education Programs in Social Enterprise. For the first time in the history of the Awards program, all three winners were awarded the Gold Prize.
Runners up – Chicken & Egg Pictures, Food Bank for New York City, and Girl Be Heard – were also recognized and received Columbia Business School Scholarships.
For more than a decade, the Awards program – managed by NPCC – has raised awareness of the importance of the diverse nonprofit community in the New York City area, provided an opportunity for focused assessment of management practices that support successful organizations through best practices outlined in NPCC’s Eight Key Areas of Nonprofit Excellence, and helped organizations make significant improvements in their own management. Nearly 75% of applicants made changes to their management practices as a result of their participation in the Awards program.
“NPCC’s Nonprofit Excellence Awards strengthen nonprofits by providing them with best practices, innovation, and tools for improving their management – a critical part of all nonprofit work,” said Sharon Stapel, President and Executive Director of NPCC. “Well-run nonprofits are better able to serve their communities, and contribute tremendously to our society. We’re proud to support and encourage nonprofit excellence.”
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to the generous sponsors for their support of this year's awards and program.
